UK Visa Process Simplified for Pakistani Students and Professionals with Launch of E-Visas.
The United Kingdom has officially introduced e-visas for Pakistani students and professionals, significantly streamlining the visa application process as part of an enhanced border and immigration system.
This development was announced by the British High Commission (BHC) in Islamabad on Tuesday, shortly after the UK and Pakistan signed the Trade Dialogue Mechanism Agreement and agreed to establish the UK-Pakistan Business Advisory Council to strengthen bilateral trade relations.
According to the BHC, the UK government is transitioning from traditional physical immigration documents to digital proof of immigration status, known as an e-visa, for most student and worker visa categories.
British High Commissioner Jane Marriott shared on X (formerly Twitter) that this initiative applies to most students and professionals intending to stay in the UK for more than six months. An e-visa serves as an online record of an individual’s immigration permission, offering a more secure, convenient, and efficient process.
The new system benefits those applying under long-term visa routes, including:
-
Students (over 6-month duration)
-
Skilled Workers (including health & care professionals)
-
Global Business Mobility applicants (Senior or Specialist Workers, Graduate Trainees, Expansion Workers, etc.)
-
Global Talent applicants
-
International Sportspersons
-
Temporary Workers (charity, creative, government-authorized exchange, religious work)
-
Youth Mobility Scheme participants
However, individuals applying as dependents or for short-term or visitor visas will continue to receive physical sticker visas. No action is required for individuals already holding valid physical visas.
The BHC further clarified that existing immigration status will remain unchanged for those shifting from physical to digital documentation. The transition aims to improve user experience by allowing applicants to retain their passports during the application process and manage their immigration status through a UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account, now mandatory for stays longer than six months.
This move reflects the UK’s commitment to enhancing accessibility and security in the immigration process and is a significant step toward a fully digital visa system in the near future.
